Konzert: Gewandhausorchester - "Große und kleine Helden" (Filmmusikkonzert)
This early early morning at 10:39, when I was still in bed sleeping, Диана/Diana rang at our door and my mother let her come in... Diana only wanted to know if I could help her with her malfunctioning graphic card, 'cause she couldn't watch the DVD she had rent yesterday. I couldn't help her either, as I have no hardware skills whatsoever. So I sent her away and slept for another 2 hours.
The afternoon, after coming back from Alexandra's place, I took the bus to the Gewandhaus, where I met up with
Laura and her friend Kathleen. The Gewandhausorchester played some Wagner stuff and several pieces from famous movies, namely:
- "King's Row"
- "The Adventures of Robin Hood"
- "Edward Scissorhands"
- "El Cid"
- "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"
- "Home Alone"
- "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban"
- "Empire of the Sun"
- "James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies"
I got my ticket for only 9€, which is quite a bargain. We also had nice seats and a good view on the orchestra, which was really big. Laura's father played a violin and I think Birgit's mom also did. I saw Birgit sitting in the audience too, but I don't know if she saw me. I admit that I didn't know most of the pieces played, but I enjoyed it very much. The part from "Edward Scissorhands" was great, I suddenly remembered the film's atmosphere and I immediately knew when the castle scene came. Pretty cool! I also though I remembered the "Home Alone" one, although I didn't like that film very much. Of course I recognized the James Bond theme.
A children's choir was singing for some pieces as well. Mostly girls and some boys of around 12~16 years, I guess. Noticeable were two girls: one with an extremely weird hair-style; short, bright blonde hair with a thick, blazingly red line around her bangs and around her neck — I have never ever seen such a crazy hair-style! The other one looked pretty normal but was the only one who actually moved while singing; she bowed back and forth and seemed really enthusiastic... or maybe just trying to draw attention on herself, who knows. Due to her permanent moving she lost two ribbons/suspenders [Bänder/Rockhalter] of her skirt. "Hah! Das hat sie nun davon!" I said to Laura, hehe...
I was also paying attention to the conductor, whose moves I couldn't quite follow... it's hard to draw a connection between the conductor's gestures and the actually played music, I think. The best one, however, was the timpanist [Pauker]. I didn't know that one had to actually tune bass drums! He permanently checked the tune of his drums with a finger and then adjusted the tension again. Towards the end of the whole concert, a transverse flute player (a woman) suddenly lost consciousness and had to be carried out by some other musicians.
But I enjoyed the entire concert, it was so cool to see an orchestra play again and I'm already looking forward to next Sunday when I will see/hear another one.
I met Tino, when I got home, then. That's all.
