Dies und das...
Because I'm still a little confused and nervous (can't tell you why now, sorry), I'll just write a sketch of the last few days...
Monday:
• History and Modern Chinese were okay
• there were two Asian looking people in the elevator which spoke a weird language that sounded a little like Russian with lots of sibilants and only very few vowels; my guess is that it was Mongolian
• met up with
fay_morgenstern to buy tickets for a classical concert next weeks
• filled out the Saxon vocabulary questionaire with her known words
• went home afterwards
• evening: Language Death
•
my lecturer suggested a different topic for my semester paper: "Endangered Subsystems: Writing" = great idea
• 3 speeches, an Arabian student read out an Arabic citation which ended in the words "wa hadde hadde", which sounds funny
• Fachschaftsrat: got a Czech newspaper from Tyko & Co. (thanks!), had a funny and interesting talk with Kathi and Stefan, we read through my LJ, talked about Chinese with Stefan, etc.
• got home late
Tuesday:
• Modern Chinese as usual
• Country Studies was okay, as Dr. Meyer asked questions and did a repetition
• saw Stefan's friend, the nun from a Vietnamese cloister
• Berlind told me that she might have Mongolian ancestors
• got 100€ (!) from my granny
• phones with
Laura when I was home... glad she called me
Wednesday: (aka today)
• wrote a dictation in Modern Chinese; had severe comprehension problems... >.<
• Stephi made a rather pissed impression, but we got silly as usual later on
• got the alphabet chart for the Oiratic alphabet (looks like old Mongolian, running from top to bottom) from our Chinese tutor Alexandra; it's much better than the Uyghur one
• went to the mensa with
Anne, Svea,
Johanna and Ulrike
• took the bus home then
Random things:
1. The Turkish word for plum is erik.
2. I installed the Chinese instant messenger QQ, but it doesn't work properly: Chinese characters don't get displayed and people cannot read my characters either; I'll probably need Chinese Windows for that :(
3. The explanation to my weirdness these days will follow later... in the evening, if I find the time.
